Jacquie Phelan, one of the original female mountain bikers, is coming to Davis on Saturday, March 12th. This three-time NORBA champion will host a women's cycling skills course and give a talk on "Why Women Love Bikes."
A cycling skills course will occur from 10-12 p.m. Contact Jacquie at 415-459-7093 and meet on the steps of the US Bicycling Hall of Fame at 9:45 to participate. $30 fee for class, sliding scale available.
The talk on "Why Women Love Bikes" is from 4-5 p.m. at the US Bicycling Hall of Fame.
The cycling skills course will teach fantastic skills such as:
- Phelan's much copied "Inner Chicken Respect" techniques
- How to safely read trails without distraction
- Hopping curbs without discouragement
- Impress the wildlife and random pedestrians with your amazing physique.
During the talk, Phelan will discuss how gender, age and appearance affect women's cycling experience in a historical context.

As an added bonus, you will have the chance to learn more about Jacquie's unique sartorial style. Customized arm warmers, jerseys, and small touches of unique flair can make your cycling look distinctly yours.
